Five Things

Hello everybody!

Is it almost February, already?! I’m sure I would almost completely forget if it wasn’t for the fact that a literal “Super Bowl City” is being built right in the middle of my SF commute. It’s quite a sight, but I don’t anticipate ever seeing it in its entirety. As much as I love my city, I’m not one to brave massive, crazed crowds during the weekend just so I can see Chris Issak or Alicia Keys from 2 miles away. Now, if they were performing a club in Las Vegas, that might be a different story…

Luckily, in anticipation of being somewhat housebound these next two weekends, I’ve been doing a bit of extra exploring lately. This week’s Five Things is just a little glimpse at what I’ve been up to…

There’s a Whole Foods up the road from my office that I like to frequent. I can’t help but peruse all the pretty cakes in the pastry cases whenever I’m there. On my last visit I found this little “Fancy Cupcake” guy. He’s almost too cute to eat!

I was doing a bit of shopping in the East Bay over the weekend, and I was gifted these lovely flowers from Tumbleweed Floral Truck. They certainly helped perk up my house during these last few rainy days.

I have an incredible soft spot for Lush, and had to stop in to pick up some of their latest limited edition Valentine’s Day products. The boss lady and I used to joke that Lush should construct its own break-up worthy line of products, perfect for perking up your friends when they experience a bit of heartbreak. So, I was so excited to see a new Wash That Man Right Out of my Hair shower gel. Bye, Felipe!

I finally managed to treat myself to a long-anticipated manicure the other day. While I initially was hoping for something like this, I ended up with a neutral, sparkly ombre nail instead. I’ve really been enjoying them lately.

I have a new shopping obsession: Kit and Ace. Founded by family members of the founder of Lululemon, Kit and Ace boats beautifully constructed, well…what I like to call “grown-up clothes.” Everything they offer is quite simple, with touches of rose gold detailing here and there. I very much want to get my hands on some of their super-soft technical cashmere tops and dresses.

Until next time!

Five Things

Hello dear readers!

I can’t believe it’s already a week since the last “Five Things!” I feel like I begin almost all my blogs the same way, but it’s true. This week I’ve found myself inundated with choreography and planning a gala. That’s right- I’m helping plan a gala. Has there ever been a more hoity-toity phrase spoken? All the legitimate hard work aside, I’m quite excited. Stay tuned to see snapshots on Watch Me Juggle!

In the meantime, here’s this weeks Five Things!

imageI recently bough two bouquets of daffodils for no reason in particular. They’ve made my house smell so amazing! They’re quite cheerful sight when I come home after a long day.
imageI showed my new Alex & Ani mermaid bracelet off on Five Things a few weeks ago. I decided she was lonely and bought this starfish to keep her company! I love what it represents.
image This may look a rather underwhelming blob of soap, but it’s so much more. This is the new “Honey I Washed my Hair” shampoo bar from Lush. I can’t say enough good things about it; it lathers like crazy, and smells like the most delicious honey toffee. I’ve even rubbed it on my skin in lieu of perfume! image I’ve been doing some mild redecorating at my place, and decided that I would put a few of my most favorite pair of shoes on display. It’s an unabashedly girly move, I must say. image

I’m a shameless hoarder of shopping bags. This wouldn’t really be problematic, except for the things I buy that live in these bags. I originally needed some very practical things at Lush, which then turned into me raiding the sale section at J.Crew. I like to leave my new things in the bags for as long as possible, to preserve that “newness.” Does anyone else do this?

Until next time!

Lush Haul

Hello everyone!

Happy Friday! We finally made it! To celebrate, I’m taking a bath and going to bed nice and early. Never thought you would hear that from me now, would you?

I’ve been slightly out of sorts lately. I don’t what it is, but I suddenly felt my muscles seize up on Thursday and couldn’t figure out what was wrong. I tried ibuprofen, Excedrin, and countless cups of coffee. Laying on a heating pad provided me with some temporary relief, as did topical rubs. I finally threw in the towel and went to a chiropractor. She was wonderful and her treatments made me feel loads better. But, you know what she recommended?

Baths.

knew it! I’m totally justified in saying that baths are one of the best things ever; which is why I take them very seriously, and indulge in the occasional trip to Lush Cosmetics. Lush is one of my very favorite places to get my hair care, skin care, and pamper-products. I absolutely adore Lush products, and, lucky for me, they frequently release new and exciting things around the holidays.  During my latest Lush run, I picked up three of their limited-edition holiday bath bombs: Cinders, a spicy cinnamon bomb; Luxury Lush Pud, a cozy lavender-scented explosion of color; and Sparkler, a rose jam scented crackling stick-bomb-thing. I also grabbed one of my favorite soaps, Snow cake. It smells just like an almond cookie, but not in a sickly sweet way, just subtle and comforting.  You can even see how they make it in the Lush video below:

It’s quite a modest “haul,” embarrassingly enough for me.  Lush is set up just like a candy store, with all of its products unwrapped and on display in heaps, so it’s hard for me not to go too overboard.  Even though I only purchased a few products, they quickly filled my home with the most amazing scent. I can’t wait to use them.

Have a good weekend! I’ll be in the tub. And back at Lush tomorrow.

I Have a Problem

Hello everyone!

My name is Eva, and I have a problem hoarding bath products. Specifically from Lush.

IMG_1383

This isn’t even all of it…

Most of you already know this, but I thought I would come clean. (Get it, clean? Am horrible person, I know.)

I find FULL BAGS of things I bought months ago, hidden in my house for “later.” I have a drawer in my bathroom, composed entirely of bath bombs, bubble bars, and spare soap. Yes, spare soap. If the world’s supply of soap is devastated in some sort of freak accident, I will have enough to last me a whole year. I kid you not. My shower has also been taken over. Because, let’s face it ladies: you have some days where you want to smell like rose shower gel, and some days where you want to smell like lavender shower gel. In my home you will also find little scrubby bars, “body conditioner,” facial cleansing products, moisturizer, and massage bars. Some things I will decide are way too cute to use (anyone remember the Halloween pumpkin?) and just keep to look at them. Why? WHY??

Like this little guy, the Bunny:

IMG_1377

Sadly, he met his demise yesterday, but I was left with a pink, shea butter-y bath filled with cornflower petals.

I find that there’s just something wonderfully therapeutic about having nice-smelling things  to indulge in every-once-in-a-while. Sure, consistently buying whimsical little bars of solid bubble bath can get a bit pricey, but they’re also about the same price as a happy hour cocktail while being much better for you. I additionally appreciate the emphasis the company places on doing business ethically; their products use only fresh, environmentally friendly and cruelty-free ingredients. They promote charitable giving and are actively involved in a number of ethical campaigns, often to the point of designing products specifically for the purpose of bringing awareness to consumers. There was the ‘Shark Fin soap,’ to encourage the ban on the fin trade; the ‘Jungle soap’ to raise funds for the Rainforest Action Network ; even the ‘Freedom Foamer’ bubble bar for the Freedom to Marry campaign. It’s just cosmetics, really, but it’s so refreshing to support a company that has both fantastic products and something distinctly positive to say.

They’re my favorite.

Ok, so it’s to the point that the store employees know me whenever I go in to “stock up,” but there are much worse things I could do.

Just saying.

Five Things

Happy Halloween eve everyone! (If that’s even a thing) Seems like the holidays are in full swing, and the pumpkins have taken over. They’re everywhere. In your lotion, in your beer. I could do a whole post on it. Someday soon!

Here’s this week’s “Five Things”:

If you’re wondering, I do have magpie-like tendencies.

(Tazo “Rest” Tea)

One of my before bedtime favorites. With lavender & rose. Yum!

And…a little ballerina cake-topper. Something tells me she will make other appearances here in future.

IMG_0488(My nailpolish color matches the walls in my bathroom!)

Just an amusing observation. Forgive my scary hand in this photo.

IMG_0494(Speaking of Pumpkins: Meet Pumpkin Mumkin)

My latest Lush acquisition. He has a little licorice stem, chocolate chip eyes, and makes loads of orange blossom-scented bubbles. Trouble is, he’s too cute for his own good and I can’t bring myself to use him!

(Audrey Hepburn. Dancing. Enough said.)
